February - Evergreen Clematis
There are very few evergreen species of clematis. Perhaps the most popular is Clematis armandii. With its long, slightly pointed, shiny green foliage and fragrant white flowers, it’s guaranteed to brighten up your garden in early spring.
Clematis armandii makes a useful screen, and as it can grow to a height of around 10 metres and 5 metres wide, it will easily entwine itself in trees or clothe hedges and fencing.
Offer it protection from cold winds by planting in a sheltered site if possible, preferably with a cool root run. Pruning is usually unnecessary other than to remove dead or damaged growth.
